MyGiHealth was used to collect data for three important studies presented by Cedar Sinai Medical Center, Michigan Medicine, and Ironwood Pharmaceuticals at this year’s DDW conference. The self-administered surveys guided patients through an online questionnaire to determine the prevalence, burden of illness, and healthcare behaviors. Using MyGiHealth’s proprietary algorithms and digital technology, data was collected and organized for over 90,000+ adult patients. Here are the posters presented and key highlights for each study:
Prevalence and Burden of Illness of Rome IV Irritable Bowel Syndrome in the U.S
Key Highlights & Takeaways
- Out of the almost 90,000 individuals who completed the survey 7.4% met Rome IV IBS criteria.
- Based on the survey results, the investigators noted that Rome IV IBS is more prevalent compared to prior estimates, and further research is needed to see if increased prevalence is due in part to COVID-19.
Prevalence and Burden of Illness of Rome IV Chronic Idiopathic Constipation, Opioid-Induced Constipation, and Opioid-Exacerbated Constipation in the U.S.
Key Highlights & Takeaways
- Out of the almost 90,000 individuals who completed the survey 6.7% had Rome IV CIC, and 2.1% had Rome IV OIC.
- Based on the survey results, the investigators noted that those with OIC and OEC have more frequent, bothersome and painful constipation symptoms, higher odds for being on prescription constipation medications, and are more likely to seek care for their symptoms when compared to those with CIC.
Prevalence of Bowel Disorders in Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease: Results from a Nationwide Survey of Nearly 90,000 Americans
Key Highlights & Takeaways
- Of the 88,969 individuals who completed the survey, 865 and 458 reported a diagnosis of MS and PD, respectively.
- Based on survey results, investigators noted that people with MS and PD are more likely to have CIC vs those without the disorders, and those with MS have higher odds for having OIC, IBS-C and fecal incontinence in the past week.
